June 2010 - Gabe's Hope is excited about it's one year anniversary! Here's a letter from Amy, Gabe's mom!
 When I think of a hero...my very first thought is of some cape wearing, power displaying, justice wielding, right fighter. Right now, those kinds of heroes are plentiful in my home of triplet five year olds. There is always someone dressed up as a superhero saving the day, or the cat, or maybe even their brother should he need help. But that is not the kind of hero I am talking about....
I am talking about the kind of heroes we all have in our lives. Those people who push us to do great things; that inspire us to be just a little better... For some it is famous athlete or musician...maybe a write, a coach or an activist of some kind. But on this beautiful June day I find myself thinking about a most unlikely hero...my son Gabe. He would be turning two this Friday (June 18th) and while he only spent six sweet months on this earth he along with his brothers have proved to be some of my greatest heroes.
Although Gabe never spoke an audible word he crossed all language barriers to share multiple secrets with me, his dad, brothers, and care providers....you see his eyes spoke a language unique to himself, but something we all understood. I wish I could tell you everything he taught me, but it was through those lessons that I was pushed to be better, to step outside comfort zones, to go a further, to give from where I have been .... I wish that I was able to explain the amazing impact his life has had not only on his family, but on families around the country that followed his story....and now the families that his legacy Gabe's Hope impacts...but mere words can't explain so.... the simple word of "hero" will have to suffice.
This week as our family celebrates the life of one of our sweetest heroes....I hope that you will also celebrate the heroes in your life. Would you consider honoring them with a donation to Gabe's Hope? If all of our facebook fans gave $2.00 that would provide another 2 months of care packages. Maybe you could also post this on your page in honor of his 2nd birthday...the more we can spread the word about GHI the more people we can help.

Gabe's Hope is committed to supporting families who babies are born with congenital heart defects and other life threatening conditions in Alabama. When your child is critically ill your life is put on pause, and sometimes the most mundane things can send you into a tail spin. By providing for basic needs, such as meals, toiletries, snacks, money for laundry, gift cards, umbrellas, books, loveys, etc. GHI is meeting physical needs, but also emotional needs by letting them know they are not alone, and they are cared for. We need your help!!
