Gabe's Hope was started to provide encouragement and to be a light
to the families of babies born with congenital heart defects at UAB.
Knowing first hand the overwhelming feeling that comes with having a newborn in the
RNICU, we have designed care packages that will be distributed to the families.
These will provide necessities.. such as toiletries, baby items, snacks, meal gift cards, and
other essentials to help make the stay in intensive care more comfortable.
In addition, Gabe's Hope will be providing meals on major holidays to those families
who are unable, or don't feel comfortable leaving the hospital.
Unfortunately, as we all know, despite the most modern medical interventions, not all
babies are saved. In this tragic event, Gabe's Hope will make available ornaments
that will be used during bereavement care. Parents will be given an ornament with
their child's handprint, providing a permanent treasured keepsake.
Finally, Gabe's Hope will as just started a new program called Beads of Hope to encourage and aid babies and
their families while in the NICU at Northport Medical Center. Providing
encouragement and support through the challenges and celebrationg the milestones
goes a long way in keeping hopes high and each day optimistic. |
